The House of Representatives has adjourned without a new speaker after two days of voting.
House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy lost in the 6th round of voting for House speaker on Wednesday.
The House reconvened at 8pm and passed a motion to adjourn until Thursday at noon.
A group of 20 conservative House Freedom Caucus members consistently opposed McCarthy’s bid for speaker on the House floor since Tuesday afternoon.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer and McCarthy had been meeting with members of the House Freedom Caucus to reach an agreement throughout the evening on Wednesday. A concrete deal has not yet been reached.
